Description

Enlight known around the barn as Envy is a beautiful and loving filly. She was given her name because she was born without her left eye. Her breeder thought even though she had a physical defect she could still “shine and inspire” regardless. When Envy was born there were fragments of her left eye that were surgically removed. Also at birth Envy’s right lower eye lid was turned inward and was sutured to correct it. As a foal she stayed close to her pasture buddy and was a bit on the timid side. But her breeder felt it was not due to missing an eye, because being one eyed was normal to her. She was sent to the training facility in October of 2017. The trainer said being one eyed didn’t seem to bother her or hold her back in any way. When she breezed in company she did better, it might have been because she needed to see another horse. The trainer didn’t know if it was eye related or not. Rather than push her, the donors chose to retire her and give Envy the chance to find a career that she could excel at.

Envy is a big sweetheart and great to be around. She loves grooming and attention and is great to handle. She can be easily lead on both sides, and politely walks in and out from turnout. Envy is currently turne dout with a small group of mares in a large field. She gets along well with others and is neutral in the pecking order. She stands well to be tacked up.

Undersaddle Envy has three quality gates. She has a ground covering trot and a smooth canter. Envy is very soft in the bridle. Being only three, she is still green at times. She is very quiet natured and is laid back in her way of going. She isn’t bothered by much and is not spooky. We feel she could excel in the hunter ring and will make a great show horse in the future. Envy is looking for an intermediate rider with a trainer to begin her next career.

 ADOPTION FEE POLICY

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, a fee is set for each horse that will ultimately help the horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means the program cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated and worked with by a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses the history of each horse and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that the costs associated with the ongoing care and additional training for each horse post-adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront that he or she will have more funds available to cover the ongoing costs of properly caring for a horse.
