Description

Five Forces is a no fuss type of horse that makes going to barn a pleasure, even in sub-zero temperatures! Wes, as he is known around the barn, takes life in stride and is easily loved by all. He has a sweet, friendly temperament and is easy to handle both on the ground and under saddle. He is the same horse day after day whether working in the arena or hacking around the farm, and he is glad to work on his own or with company. Wes is a quiet and sensible kick-ride, and he has a bright future of exploring trails and easy flatwork with a novice rider.

He is friendly with his small group of geldings in turnout, as is the leader by default (the former leaders have been adopted, and somebody has to show the new kids around!). He stands in cross ties, is good for the farrier, and has no vices. He is unraced and does not have a tattoo, and he sold at auction as a yearling for $250,000 thanks to his impressive breeding and correct build. He also has an interesting birthmark of sorts which shades his right hindquarter and back of his leg. In the rigors of race training, Wes acquired a slight “hitch in his giddy-up” and is likely limited to leisure riding. He is comfortable to ride with his sweeping, slow-motion type strides and easy-going feeling in all three gaits.

Five Force is Retrained & Remarkable Challenge eligible. As such he will receive a shipping credit of up to $500, and an invitation to compete in Challenge-specific classes at the 2019 New Vocations Charity Horse Show Series. R&R adopters who choose to participate in the competition will be eligible to compete for $5,000 in cash and prizes; they will also receive a FREE stall at the Charity Horse Show and FREE entry into Challenge classes.

ADOPTION FEE POLICY

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, a fee is set for each horse that will ultimately help the horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means the program cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated and worked with by a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses the history of each horse and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that the costs associated with the ongoing care and additional training for each horse post-adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront that he or she will have more funds available to cover the ongoing costs of properly caring for a horse.
