Description

Jeanete Next Door is not your average ‘girl next door.’ This sweet redhead may come off as shy, but when she bonds with someone, she has boundless love to give. She is polite through and through: easy to handle on the ground and stands well for the farrier. Even though she wasn’t cut out to be a racehorse (with only one start on the track), she is progressing nicely as a riding horse.

We have been working on relaxation techniques to help her stretch long and low, as she tends to get tight along her topline. When she comes onto the bit, relaxes her topline and uses her hind end (she’s learning to put it all together), she is quite the looker under saddle! She would benefit from an advanced riding partner who can help her to be zen, and to reassure her when she needs a confidence boost (she LOVES praise). Jeanete also loves to be out outdoors, but she would prefer to be with buddies in turnout and on trails.

We could see Jeanete excelling as a pleasure mount, in either an english or a western saddle, and maybe some hunters or field hunters. Lots of possibilities for this lovely mare.

Jeanete is Retrained & Remarkable Challenge eligible. As such she will receive a shipping credit of up to $500, and an invitation to compete in Challenge-specific classes at the 2019 New Vocations Charity Horse Show Series. R&R adopters who choose to participate in the competition will be eligible to compete for $5,000 in cash and prizes; they will also receive a FREE stall at the Charity Horse Show and FREE entry into Challenge classes.

ADOPTION FEE POLICY

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, a fee is set for each horse that will ultimately help the horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means the program cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated and worked with by a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses the history of each horse and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that the costs associated with the ongoing care and additional training for each horse post-adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront that he or she will have more funds available to cover the ongoing costs of properly caring for a horse.
