Mortal Zin better known around the barn as Zin is a winner of over $400K in earnings, sired by well known Rocknroll Hanover. He is strikingly handsome with a beautiful head and kind eye. Zin is a wise, sensitive, and keen natured fellow. He enjoys turnout. We have had him turned out with a TB and they absolutely adored one another. He stands well in the cross ties for grooming and the farrier. Zin loves attention, being groomed, and getting a bath. He is currently wearing front shoes.
Zin has spent most of his life being competitive. He was transitioned into a riding horse career at our OH facility and adopted. Zin was returned to our PA facility in the middle of June, it was simply not a perfect match. Now, we typically only have TB’s here at our PA facility, but we were eager to work with our first STB! We first found out that he was afraid of sudden movements and mounting was terrifying. We have been working on mounting with a handler and made good success on building up his confidence. Zin is looking for an advanced rider who has experience working on building trust and developing confidence.
His right person will be patient and looking for a project. Under saddle Zin is a gentleman. He has been able to demonstrate at trot and is able to hold the canter for a few strides. He is willing to try new things. Zin was just introduced to poles and a few small jumps and enjoyed the challenge. He seemed quite pleased with himself. We have enjoyed our time working with Mortal Zin. While Zin doesn’t fall into the typical STB “Quiet” stereotype, we feel that he’s ready for an experienced rider to bond with and become his best friend.
Mortal Zin is Retrained & Remarkable Challenge eligible. As such he will receive a shipping credit of up to $500, and an invitation to compete in Challenge-specific classes at the 2019 New Vocations Charity Horse Shows in Ohio. R&R adopters who choose to participate in the competition will be eligible to compete for $2,500 in cash and prizes; they will also receive a FREE stall at the horse show and FREE entry into Challenge classes.
ADOPTION FEE POLICY
New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, a fee is set for each horse that will ultimately help the horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means the program cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.
Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated and worked with by a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses the history of each horse and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.
While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that the costs associated with the ongoing care and additional training for each horse post-adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront that he or she will have more funds available to cover the ongoing costs of properly caring for a horse.
