    Update

For the past few years, we have thoroughly enjoyed watching these seven New Vocations Thoroughbreds learn a new career alongside the young, talented riders at Gallop On. The program was founded by Heidi and John Vandemotter, both Master’s of Foxhounds at the Grand River Hunt Stables in NE Ohio. “Gallop On is a non-profit organization that provides education and equestrian opportunities for talented, but less financially privileged young riders” shares Heidi. “Our name may be new but the concept has been utilized at the Grand River Hunt Stables for the past 25 years.”Heidi goes on to explain, “Hounds and horses naturally attract people especially horse crazy teenaged girls. Our youth work hard helping with chores, stable management and daily horse care. As Masters of Foxhounds my husband John and I have vast experience training off-the-track-thoroughbreds as field hunters. Under our supervision, it has been the perfect learning experience for both our young riders and our New Vocations’ horses. We are serving a dual mission to train and educate young people to take responsibility and excel, while providing ex-racehorses with the training and experience to do well in a new career. With older horses setting the example, the young riders help their retirees settle into new vocations of: eventing, showing, and foxhunting.”The following seven horses are New Vocations’ adoptees and currently used in Gallop On:Is It for Me Or U – 2008 unraced gelding by You and I (Kris S)Peahi – 2006 gelding by Pleasantly Perfect (Pleasant Colony): 8 lifetime starts w/ $83,416 total earningsCaptain Hawke – 2007 unraced gelding by Lemon Drop Kid (Kingmambo)“Oops” – 2009 unregistered, unraced gelding by Empire MakerRussian Bear – 2009 gelding by Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado): 1 lifetime start w/ $70 total earningsCrossed Sabres – 2006 gelding by E Dubai (Mr. Prospector): 16 lifetime starts w/ $17,896 total earningsDancing Luca – 2006 gelding by Pulpit (A.P.
