Our Peppermint Prince is just that….a Prince!! He is out of Holy Holy Moly, and HOLY MOLY is he awesome!!! He is your true definition of a war horse.  Prince came into the program with such presence, and carries that with him wherever he goes in the barn! Prince is coming into his own and learning how to be a horse! Took him a bit to warm up to pasture life for a few weeks and has begun to play, roll, and get covered in mud! After giving him a few weeks of downtime, we sensed he was missing something…work! He loves it, eats it up! He is anxious under saddle but we believe its because he has always been moving and shaking and never wants to do wrong! Once guided and he understands what you are asking, he is happy to oblige. Prince is a BIG boy, big bodied, with a sweet little face that he is allowing us to love on more and more! Prince will need a consistent job once he settles in to a new place. He will need someone with patience and a kind hand. He does not want to do wrong but he is a big strong boy! He has been taken over ground poles and seems to like something different. With his body holding up this well his opportunities are endless. With him being a powerhouse, we believe he is best suited for a professional rider or an advanced adult working with a professional trainer. He does best with a light but supportive seat and a soft, quiet hand! He stands up to his name and is obsessed with peppermints! Stands in crossties, loves to be groomed, good for farrier!

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, a fee is set for each horse that will ultimately help the horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means the program cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated and worked with by a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses the history of each horse and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that the costs associated with the ongoing care and additional training for each horse post-adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront that he or she will have more funds available to cover the ongoing costs of properly caring for a horse.
