I adopted Thunder in 2015. We’ve done everything together, from hunter/jumpers and eventing to trail riding through the mountains in Dupont Forest.

Three years ago, Thunder started showing signs of allergies to the biting gnats (“no-see ums”). At first, it was manageable with fly sheets,  lots of fly spray, and medications. His allergies worsened and started affecting Thunder all year round. The hot, humid and constantly fluctuating climate of coastal South Carolina has only compounded the issue as there is never a break from the biting gnats.  His allergies are no longer manageable. He is miserable.  I am miserable seeing him live this way. My veterinarian recommends that he live in an area with no biting gnats/“no-see ums.”

It breaks my heart to rehome him, however, I know it is the right thing to do.  He is an awesome horse with tons of potential. Thunder does best when he is in a consistent program.  He requires an experienced rider for he has been out of a riding program for the past year. Thunder rides out on trails alone and in company.  He is sound, has no vices, is not barn or buddy sour, and has no health issues except for the bug allergies.  He trailers great, crossties and has good ground manners. Thunder is a good pasture mate.  He gets along with everyone and can be turned out with mares and geldings.

He is currently being used in an equine-assisted psychotherapy program working with children from hard places.  He is wonderful at this work and seems to enjoy connecting with people.

I'm looking to rehome this sweet boy to his forever home.  Feel free to contact me for more information and references.
