Description

Sectionline Bigry, or "Ry," is a true standout—an accomplished warhorse and millionaire earner with all the charisma, presence, and brilliance you’d expect from a horse of his caliber. He was a two-time recipient of the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association award for Best Older Male Pacer. He surpassed the $1 million mark in lifetime purses with a victory in the Ohio Breeders Championship at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in September 2023. He ended his career with over $1.1 million in earnings. Now ready for his next chapter, he’s proving himself to be an exceptional sporthorse prospect with the temperament and talent to shine in the show ring. Ry is smart, athletic, and a genuinely great mover. He enjoys his dressage work and offers a forward, purposeful walk and trot, along with the beginnings of a nicely developing canter each way. He’s naturally catty and careful over ground poles, showing the balance, rideability, and responsiveness that make him an exciting partner for someone looking to compete.

We showed Ry in an intro-level dressage show this past summer, and he did amazing! He craves attention and loves human interaction, though he can bring a bit of spice and brightness to his work—exactly the kind of energy that makes him fun, engaged, and forward-thinking. He likes being able to see other horses, but also values his personal space and is content in his own stall. Underneath it all, he’s a horse with a big heart, big brain, and big presence. With his excellent feet and legs, his athletic movement, and his clear enjoyment of arena work, Ry is poised to excel as a show horse. If you’re looking for a talented, intelligent partner with star quality and endless potential, Ry is ready to step into the spotlight once again—this time in a new arena.

  • Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 - Ry is a seasoned pro and he exudes it. He leads in a simple halter and lead.
  • Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - Ry is not only good- he EXPECTS the best of the grooming and work he can get, and will reciprocate with his excellent manners.
  • Horse Care - Level 1-2 - Ry is an easy keeper in general. He eats his grass, hay, and small amount of grain happily. He is in front shoes. He is not a huge fan of turnout, and prefers to be turned out on his own within sight of others.
  • Riding - Level 2- Ry loves his work, and can be a little goofy in expressing this. Ry has shown at one horse show and is very good walking and trotting in an arena environment. He has also been taken through a cross-country trail setting and is very comfortable going through water and seeing obstacles. He has not been jumped. He is best with a confident rider who knows exactly what they want to do and can continue his training.
  • General Demeanor - Level 2 - Ry is a personality, and quite expressive with it. He is truly playful, curious, and wants to please. This trainer feels that a solid program wpuld make him quite content. As noted, he only goes out alone and prefers alone turnout. He does not like being left outside for long periods of time. He likes to see other horses. He would do great in a stall that had a paddock attached so he could come and go as he pleased.
  • Physical Capability - Level 2 -   Ry is going to make a fantastic show horse, hack around the farm horse, driving horse, etc. This special horse has been champion on the track and is ready for his next endeavor as a riding horse. Due to his time on the track, he is best suited for any type of flat riding.

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES

New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller (in today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!).

Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500.

  • Fees typically correspond with a horse’s Anticipated Physical Capability. So, horses that are found to be best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.

While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. We hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.

When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!

Another perk of adopting from us: we do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program

New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.

Since our inception in 1992, we've carried out our mission to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses and placed more than 9,000 in adoptive homes.  With nine facilities in Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, we continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of aftercare options and with our adopters to find perfect homes for these most-deserving equine athletes.
