Description
2026 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover Eligible
Margarita Cinco carries a little spice but LOVES to be loved on and is a sweet girl. With a shiny dark bay coat, Margo is absolutely gorgeous. She has no vices in the stall, is easy to catch in the paddock, good for the farrier or doc, great to groom and stands quiet in the wash stall. She enjoys being fussed over and spending quality time with her person. Under tack, she is happy to walk and trot around and likes to have the company of other horses. She responds well to a person who is patient and fair. She bonds strongly with her handler and is looking for someone to work with to take her in any direction for her next career.
- Leading and Ground Manners - Level 2 -Margo has made tremendous progress while in the New Vocations program working with her handlers. However, she can be excitable in a new environment and needs a confident handler to work with her in those scenarios.
- Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 -Margo enjoys being brushed and can quietly stand in the crossties for any purpose; getting ready for work, just being loved on, vet or farrier care, etc. She takes the bit with ease.
- Horse Care - Level 1 - Margo is an easy keeper and only requires front shoes.
- Riding - Level 1-2 - Under tack Margo is content to walk, trot, and canter with or without the company of other horses. She is able to stand in the arena while other horses are working on different skills and to join in. Currently she is exploring cross rails and will float over ground poles with ease. We've had teens and adults ride her and she is the same horse for each of them. We don't feel that she is for a beginner although she is doing everything right.
- General Demeanor - Level 2 - Margo is a sensitive mare and can become excitable from external stimuli. Since coming off the track, she has learned how to self-regulate and gets better and better every day! She does best with a routine and enjoys the predictability of it. She will do anything for a peppermint!
- Physical Capability - Level 3 - Margo has no physical restrictions and can go in any direction for her next career. With the right partner to support her, this mare will be able to do well in many different types of careers!

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES
New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller. In today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!
Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500. Fees typically correspond with a horse’s anticipated physical capabilities. So, horses that are best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.
While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. New Vocations hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.
When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!
Another perk of adopting from us: We do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program
New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.
Since our inception in 1992, we've carried out our mission to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses and placed more than 9,000 in adoptive homes. With nine facilities in Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, we continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of aftercare options and with our adopters to find perfect homes for these most-deserving equine athletes.
