Fuligni

2026 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover Eligible

Fuligni is a rich liver chestnut mare who carries herself with quiet confidence and a touch of understated charm—fittingly named after the refined Italian wines of Fuligni, known for their depth, balance, and a little bit of quiet luxury. Like her namesake, Fuligni has layers. Her deep, gleaming coat mirrors the rich tones of a fine Brunello, and her personality unfolds the more time you spend with her. On the ground, she’s as good as they come—well-behaved, easygoing, and happy to go along with whatever the day brings. She’s the kind you can count on to meet you at the gate with a calm presence and a “what’s the plan?” attitude. Under saddle, Fuligni prefers a more relaxed pace of life. Much like a wine meant to be savored rather than rushed, she’s a steady, unhurried ride—best enjoyed by someone who appreciates taking their time. She’ll do her job, but she’s not one to hurry without a good reason, offering a smooth, easygoing experience instead of high-octane energy. And just when you think she’s all elegance, her playful side peeks through. After a good stretch or a satisfying ride, she’ll often give a contented little lip flap—her version of a satisfied sigh, or maybe a quiet toast to a job well done. Fuligni is equal parts class and character, the kind of mare who makes every ride feel just a little more enjoyable.

• Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 - Fuligni uses a regular halter with a cotton lead most times. If she is in need of anything more, we only use a rope halter. She does NOT like a chain over her nose.
• Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - Fuligni enjoys attention. She stands to be groomed and tacked, and she enjoys cookies and a spa day.
• Horse Care - Level 1 - Fuligni is currently barefoot.
• Riding - Level 2 - Fuligni is well-behaved under saddle. She is a more 'whoa than go' type.
• General Demeanor - Level 1 - Fuligni is easy to have around. She turns out well with other mares and has no vices.
• Physical Capability - Level 3 - Fuligni is suitable for a heavy impact career. She retired sound with no known injuries or limitations.

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES

New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller. In today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!

Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500. Fees typically correspond with a horse’s anticipated physical capabilities. So, horses that are best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.

While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. New Vocations hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.

When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!

Another perk of adopting from us: We do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.
