Description
Toxic Rock is a 15.3 handsome gelding by Rockin Image who raced 117 times. If you are looking for a horse with the full, thick, black mane and tail, this is the one! Rock was retired due to a bone cyst located on his hock. He is sound on it and has been lightly ridden for over a year with no issues. He is a "been there, done that" kind of horse that is full of wisdom and loves going on leisurely rides. He is fine turned out with other geldings. Easy to groom and love on. This horse is the total package and having quite a bit of transitional training is ready to be someone's companion horse!! Rock was retired almost two years ago when a small cyst was found on his hock. The veterinarian recommended he retire from racing and be a light riding horse. He has remained sound and happy. He is barefoot and an easy keeper. Due to the cyst he is recommended for light riding. Happy to share images with serious, approved, adopters.
- Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 - Rock leads with a simple halter and lead.
- Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - Rock is well-behaved! He stands well for grooming and tacking.
- Horse Care - Level 1 - Rock is barefoot and on grass mix hay and ration balancer
- Riding - Level 1 - Rock has taken to riding in a basic snaffle and has been wonderful under saddle at the walk. His automatic tendency is to pace if he goes faster, but he prefers the brisk, forward walk. He does not trot under saddle.
- General Demeanor - Level 1 - Rock is an all-around good boy. He is currently turned out with a group of geldings.
- Physical Capability - Level 1 - Rock has a hock cyst that is inoperable, and while he is comfortable with his light, low impact workload. His career is limited so that he can live his days out with purpose with light, easy trail riding and ground work with his person.

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES
New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller. In today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!
Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500. Fees typically correspond with a horse’s anticipated physical capabilities. So, horses that are best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.
While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. New Vocations hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.
When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!
Another perk of adopting from us: We do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.

New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.
