Description
Crazy On You has been on multiple trail rides the past few months and handles everything like a champ. She does prefer to go out with another horse and is a follower. She also has been ridden and groomed by kids and very good with them. She is good to be ponied off of another horse and could also do that on the trails easily for someone wanting to pony one.
This sweet mare has great feet and is barefoot. She is great with other horses and being turned out.
Crazy is well into the early stages of her third career and has developed into a dependable, enjoyable riding partner with a willing attitude and a kind heart! She has embraced life beyond the track and continues to grow in confidence with consistent work and guidance. She has had 7 foals.
Crazy enjoys trail rides with a companion and is equally happy participating in basic ring work, including obstacle exercises. She has a lovely walk and trot under saddle and seems to particularly enjoy activities involving patterned ground poles, where her thoughtful nature and willingness to learn really shines! Dependable to handle and ride, she thrives on consistency and benefits from having a job that keeps her mind engaged.
Perhaps Crazy's favorite thing, however, is having a person of her own. She loves attention, affection, and being doted on. She forms strong bonds with those who care for her. For someone looking for a sweet, reliable companionship - both human and equine - Crazy offers the perfect combination of partnership, personality, and heart.
- Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 -Crazy leads well with a simple halter and lead.
- Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - If you want to doll her up, she's there for it! If you just want to groom her enough to work or check her over, she's ready! Like most gals, she can be a bit sensitive being girthed.
- Horse Care - Level 1 - Crazy is on a ration balancer with her small amount of grain and enjoys her grassy pasture time and free-choice hay in her stall. She is currently barefoot. In turnout, Crazy is happiest with company. She gets along well with a small group or even just one mare friend. She prefers not to spend time alone, especially when venturing outside the arena. She is a relatively easy keeper, she is uncomplicated in her daily care, and appreciates a predictable routine. is maintaining well on our regular rations and is currently barefoot.
- Riding - Level 1-2- Crazy is sweet to ride. She does prefer to ride with another horse versus going alone. She has been trail ridden and ridden in an indoor.
- General Demeanor - Level 1 - Crazy is anything but "crazy" - she is a forward-going gal who is smart and wants to work with her handler. She prefers to go out for a ride with another horse.
- Physical Capability - Level 1-2 - Crazy has low-level ambitions for her third career. She walks and trots beautifully, and is developing quite the top line after carrying foals - the trainer expects it could continue to build with time. She has not offered a canter under saddle, but does show one in the field. She has a lovely, thick forelock!

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES
New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller (in today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!).
Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500.
- Fees typically correspond with a horse’s Anticipated Physical Capability. So, horses that are found to be best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.
While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. We hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.
When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!
Another perk of adopting from us: we do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program
New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.
Since our inception in 1992, we've carried out our mission to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses and placed more than 9,000 in adoptive homes. With nine facilities in Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, we continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of aftercare options and with our adopters to find perfect homes for these most-deserving equine athletes.
