House has gracefully transitioned through several chapters of her life - from racehorse (raced 121 times) to devoted broodmare (dam of 8 foals) and now to a cherished riding partner. At this stage, she knows exactly what makes her happy: quiet days, familiar places, and relaxed trail rides with good friends.

Standing at 15.2 h, House is a big tank of a mare with an even bigger heart. She loves being cared for and enjoys plenty of turnout time- the more, the better! Her kind and easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion, and she appreciates a lifestyle that allows her to take things at her own pace.

While House may occasionally question obstacles in the arena and is not always eager to tackle new adventures, she shines in environments where she feels comfortable and confident. Her ideal home values leisurely rides, peaceful farm outings, and the simple pleasure of spending time together. Whether exploring familiar trails or meandering around the farm with a friend or two, House is content carrying just about anyone aboard. House is looking for a partner who appreciates her wisdom, gentle nature, and uncomplicated outlook on life. If you are searching for a sweet, dependable mare to enjoy quiet rides and easy companionship, House may be your match!

• Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1+  -House is generally easygoing and a willing participant. She may need a little more patience and guidance with new things that confuse her. She's got a great side eye and side step when she is not quite sure.
• Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - House loves being groomed and is pretty easy to tack. She can protest her girth being tightened, but who doesn't protest a slightly too-tight belt?
• Horse Care - Level 1 - House is barefoot and requires no supplements to look beautiful and full-figured!
• Riding - Level 1+- House is generally a great ride for anyone, especially when following a great friend. She can be a little quick to react with her shoulder when concerned with footing.
• General Demeanor - Level 1 - House is generally a girl who needs to take a moment to assess and gleans from the confidence of her handler.
• Physical Capability - Level 1- House is interested in the gentle, low-stress life. Can she trot along? Sure. But why trot when she can just powerwalk a few steps instead? And what is the rush? Let's just go on a hack with a friend to show the way and chill!

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES

New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller (in today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!).

Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500.

• Fees typically correspond with a horse’s Anticipated Physical Capability. So, horses that are found to be best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.

While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. We hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.

When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!

Another perk of adopting from us: we do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.
