Description
Matron of Honor: Designer Dreams
Are you looking for a sweet tempered, easy on the eyes, lifetime of successes mare to join your herd? Designer Dreams is a mare that is quite the dream of a mare ! This Matron of Honor also holds Warhorse status with 102 starts, and has produced 4 foals. This lovely lady is looking for a home that enjoys small group trail riding, simple obstacles, and some ground work to be engaged in a laid back lifestyle. DD has a purposeful walk that is smooth to ride, and has made her preferences clear that she would love someone with a comfy western saddle. She picks up both a smooth, gentle pace or an easy going trot under saddle. Due to her vast career and age she would like to keep her on a more slow and gentle lifestyle, where she offers She has taken riders of many experiences on local rides, and is a dependable mount. DD doesn’t believe she is aging, and has an occasional youthful moment that doesn’t last more than a moment (but can be enjoyed if the rider is also feeling more adventurous and encourages her!) In a herd, DD tends to be near or at the top. Her mothering personality takes charge and is disciplining of order while taking on her role as herd protector seriously. She has been in smaller groups of 3 or larger groups (up to 8) mares while she has been with her trainer.
- Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 - - DD leads easily with a plain halter and lead rope.
- Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - - DD enjoys her grooming time with a gentle approach. She can be a little girthy.
- Horse Care - Level 1 - - DD is barefoot and is one a ration balancer, grass mix hay, and overnight pasture.
- Riding - Level 1.5 - DD is energetic, even though she is mainly suitable for walking. She is happiest in a simple snaffle or a snaffle with rollers, and has also done well with a hackamore. She prefers a western saddle, or a broader paneled English saddle with a pad that widens the pressure over her back.
- General Demeanor - Level 1.5 - - DD is a sweet mare to be around, and depends on knowing her surroundings well or having the company of other horses within sight. She enjoys being engaged with her handler!
- Physical Capability - Level 1 - - DD is best suited to a walk with some trot/ pace life with low-level expectations.

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES
New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller. In today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!
Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500. Fees typically correspond with a horse’s anticipated physical capabilities. So, horses that are best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.
While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. New Vocations hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.
When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!
Another perk of adopting from us: We do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.
