Dashboard Dancer

Dashboard Dancer is a lovely, well-built mare with a kind disposition and plenty of potential for success in several fields. This full bodied 16.1-hand mare who is ready to find her next partner! Dancer is an easy keeper with a big, ground-covering trot and a lovely, swinging walk. She has some trail experience and is fairly confident out on the trails, and has also attended 4-H shows, giving her some experience in a show environment. She has been a confident mount both in the arena and out on the farm trails for her trainer and a younger intermediate level rider alike. She is currently being a leader personality for younger, less experienced horses going out on their first open field experiences, exuding calm and watchful behavior for them toe glean confidence through. Dancer’s ideal rider would be someone looking to continue developing their riding skills, gain experience, and build a meaningful partnership. She has a training foundation to build upon and could be a rewarding partner, and a build that could be paired with many types of riders. Her walk swings with ease and she has a lovely sweeping trot that is rhythmic and turns heads with its ease and grace. It's a beautiful gait to watch!

• Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 - Dancer leads with a simple halter and cotton lead.
• Grooming and Tacking - Level 1+ - Dancer is a good girl in being handled, but can be a little anxious and hurried walking into her stall at times. She is a big girl who seems to get excited about getting ready to do her job and can get a little impatient as well.
• Horse Care - Level 1 - Dancer is barefoot and on a simple hay buffet and ration balancer.
• Riding - Level 1 - Dancer has been ridden easily by her trainer both with other horses and solo around the farm. The trainers son also enjoys riding her both in the ring and outside of it at both walk and trot.
• General Demeanor - Level 1 - Dancer isn’t exactly a “pocket pony”. But she likes her attention and obviously much deserved loving. She enjoys routine and a job. In turnout, Dancer is a dominant personality.
• Physical Capability - Level 2 - Dancer has no known injuries, and with her big frame and great mind has potential to go many directions.

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES

New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller. In today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!

Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500. Fees typically correspond with a horse’s anticipated physical capabilities. So, horses that are best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.

While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. New Vocations hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.

When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!

Another perk of adopting from us: We do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.
