Legendary Night

Legendary Night is a young gelding that will both capture your capture your eye and heart. Standing at almost 16 hands, he’s a beautiful, eye-catching young horse who needs no extra bling to stand out. With his kind eye, smart mind, and easygoing personality, he’s the kind of horse who makes you want to get to know him. Legend is a quick learner who picks things up easily and approaches new experiences with a thoughtful, willing attitude. He has a young mind and is ready for someone who can continue to guide him, build his confidence, and help him reach his full potential. And his trot? Possibly the smoothest trot you’ll ever sit! In the herd, he’s very submissive and low on the pecking order, making him a softer presence around his pasture mates. This young gelding has so much potential ahead of him. He would love an adopter who appreciates his thoughtful nature and is excited to help a young horse continue to grow, learn, and develop into the partner he’s meant to be. Handsome, kind-eyed, and smart, this boy is ready for his next chapter.

• Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 -Legend leads with a simple halter and lead. (He has literally followed us around with us not needing to use any pressure many times.)
• Grooming and Tacking - Level 1 - Legend is young, but has acted like an old pro each time he is brought out for his work!
• Horse Care - Level 1 - Legend is barefoot and on a simple hay buffet, turnout and ration of grain .
• Riding - Level 1 - Legend has been ridden easily by his trainer solo in the arenas and on the farm trails with another horse under several riders of varying experiences.
• General Demeanor - Level 1 -  Legend yearns to hear how much of a good boy he is, and will try and do anything to get that confirmed at all times. He does enjoy his play time in a field, as do most young horses. .
• Physical Capability - Level 3 - Legend is new to under saddle, and only is walking and trotting to help build muscle. He has a lovely canter out in turnout, and has no limiting injuries. He has been ridden on trails and has been ridden by multiple riders and is the same all the time. Super cool horse that can do almost anything!!

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES

New Vocations intentionally sets our horses’ adoption fees lower than the average cost of buying a Thoroughbred or Standardbred from a private seller. In today’s market, horses coming right off the track are often listed at $5,000 to $10,000!

Our fees range from $0 (waived) to $3,500. Fees typically correspond with a horse’s anticipated physical capabilities. So, horses that are best suited for non-riding careers (our Pasture Potatoes) have waived fees, while the fees for horses assessed to be suitable for high-impact careers will be up to $3,500.

While our adoption fees are low, it’s important to remember that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for a horse can be high. New Vocations hope that by helping adopters save money upfront, you’ll have more funds available to cover the costs of properly caring for and training a retired racehorse.

When you adopt a horse through New Vocations, you’re helping two horses; your new family member and the one who takes their place in our program. Our facilities are nearly always at max capacity, which means we can’t take in a new horse until one is adopted. Keeping our adoption fees low helps us find appropriate homes for horses quickly, enabling us to help even more horses transition off the track as stalls open up in our barns!

Another perk of adopting from us: We do all we can to give you the most value for your adoption fee. Most adoptable horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days, during which they've rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, been evaluated by trainers and veterinarians, and have been in regular training with a professional. On average, the monetary value of these services exceeds $5,000. Any medical records (often including X-rays and ultrasounds) and pertinent history we have on each horse are also available to interested and approved adopters.
