Description
Titanium Girl shines!
This lovely daughter by Half Ours out of a Grand Slam mare, is exceptionally kind and clever. Easy to work with, Tina loves her handlers and peppermint flavored treats. She is well-behaved in cross-ties, for the farrier and for the vet. She is easy to walk to her pasture, as well as bring in, and less experienced handlers are able to groom and lead her.
Tina came to New Vocations after being out on pasture for the last year and a half. She has been brought back into a steady feeding and fitness program and will need an adopter who is able to continue with the program.
Tina is working well under saddle at the walk, trot and canter in the arena, but is happiest out on the trail. She truly enjoys walking through the woods and down paths and going on adventures. Tina was brought back into work slowly, with long walks to help build up her muscle. We have cantered her under saddle, but are more focused on her regaining the muscle through her back and topline slowly and properly, so the majority of the work is at the walk and trot. Tina retired from racing sound and as she regains her fitness, should have no limitations.
Who would be a good match for Tina?
Tina would do best with a mare-loving intermediate rider, who is looking for a partner with whom to have adventures. As with most horses, Tina will need a handler who is consistent and patient as she still is green and learning her new life.
ADOPTION FEE POLICY
New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.
In general, our fees are set at $500, $1,000 or $2,500.
- $2,500: This range is for horses that we consider to be the cream of the crop or the unicorn horses. They are horses that have few or no limitations, have great conformation, movement and size.
- $1,000: This range is for horses that are suitable for a competitive career up to a certain level (for example cleared for 2’6” but not 3’). They may have been fully rehabbed from a race injury but have been cleared for most disciplines.
- $500: This range is for horses that are limited to a flat, trail or companion type home. These horses are healthy and have been fully rehabbed and evaluated by a vet.
Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.
While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program
New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.
Since our inception in 1992, we've carried out our mission to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses and placed more than 9,000 in adoptive homes. With nine facilities in Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, we continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of aftercare options and with our adopters to find perfect homes for these most-deserving equine athletes.
