Tiz Dreaming is a four-year-old mare who caught our eye the second she came to us! She has that “warmblood build” to her, which will only continue to come out as she keeps growing, filling out, and maturing.

She has been lightly started under saddle, and from her first step in the ring, was screaming ‘hunter prospect’! She is quite the effortless attention-grabber, and we can’t help but to be excited to see what this girl can accomplish with the right person!

While Tiz Dreaming was retired from her short career on the track (5 starts) simply because she wasn’t competitive, we discovered that she had suspensory desmitis in both of her front legs once she started in more work in different footing. As a result, she has been enjoying some time off to recover and heal since July.

She is just now being slowly restarted in under saddle work. While there is no absolute certainty, we expect that she will be competitive through 2’6” - 3’ still (with time!), if she is given ample time to regain fitness and is maintained properly for the level of competition for which she is being asked. Did we mention that she needs time to reach her full potential?! ;)

The ideal adopter for Tiz Dreaming would be an experienced horse person who is either an advanced rider themself, or an advanced intermediate who has access to an experienced professional to help rehabilitate and bring along Tiz properly. She is a straightforward, easy-going ride, with more “whoa” than “go,” though she will move off your leg (albeit sometimes with a flutter of her ears back). She likes a light ride with a soft hand, and has great self-carriage-- easily keeping her head and neck in a very hunter-y position. She is very willing to learn and try new things as well, like laterals, although she is still green and doesn’t always fully understand what is being asked-- she’ll try though! Tiz Dreaming has also hacked out around the farm, and was fantastically behaved in lots of new environments!

In turnout, Tiz Dreaming is kind and mid-pack oriented. She wants to be everyone’s friend, but also doesn’t allow anyone to pick on her.She has no stall vices and is one of the easier to handle horses on the ground. She can get impatient on the crossties every once in a while, but you can’t blame her-- she’s young and she is the sweetest best-intentioned horse you could pick! She loves to be loved on, and is amenable to basically any kind of attention she can get, without being demanding.

She’s a mare who we think will do great things and her rehab is only a small setback in her career moving forward!

ADOPTION FEE POLICY

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

In general, our fees are set at $500, $1,000 or $2,500.

• $2,500: This range is for horses that we consider to be the cream of the crop or the unicorn horses. They are horses that have few or no limitations, have great conformation, movement and size.
• $1,000: This range is for horses that are suitable for a competitive career up to a certain level (for example cleared for 2’6” but not 3’). They may have been fully rehabbed from a race injury but have been cleared for most disciplines.
• $500: This range is for horses that are limited to a flat, trail or companion type home. These horses are healthy and have been fully rehabbed and evaluated by a vet.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.
