Description

No Big Deal is a big deal! He's the total package: tall, classy and handsome.

“Dealer” is unraced due to his dislike of the starting gate, and we won't lie ... we aren't sad about that! He has a lovely build, has nice movement and is very agreeable for such a young big guy. He shipped quietly to the farm and unloaded like a pro from a two-horse trailer. This horse is all class.

Under saddle he is agreeable and likes a soft ride. He needs a bit of help picking himself up and staying balanced at times, especially through upward transitions to the canter. He has a beautiful trot that we can see wowing in the hunter ring!

Dealer turns out with just about any gelding.

  • Leading and Ground Manners - Level 1 - You could lead this horse by his fly mask in a pinch. Ask us how we know.
  • Grooming and Tacking - Level 2 - Dealer is quiet, but he might move up to look around the corner of the grooming stall. He just likes to know what's going on!
  • Horse Care - Level 2 - Dealer is shod in the front. He was also recently gelded, so geldings only as friends!
  • Riding - Level 2 - Overall we consider Dealer to be easy-going, but he's still a baby!
  • General Demeanor - Level 2 - Dealer is a pretty agreeable guy. He can get talkative during feeding and turnout time if other horses start whinnying, but let's face it ... who isn't excited about eating!?
  • Horse Physical Capability - Level 5 - Dealer had knee arthroscopy in January 2021 after he became sore during workouts on the track. His recent radiographs were clean and the surgeon who reviewed them stated it looked like we were getting a horse without any limitations.  He has been sound in ring work during his time with us.

No Big Deal came to New Vocations via the NYTHA Take the Lead Program. We're so grateful for their continued support!

ADOPTION FEE POLICY

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

In general, our fees are set at $2,500, $1,000, $500 or waived:

  • $2,500: This range is for horses that we consider to be the cream of the crop or “unicorn” horses. They are horses that have few or no limitations and great conformation, movement and size.
  • $1,000: This range is for horses that are suitable for a competitive career up to a certain level (for example, cleared for 2’6” but not necessarily 3’). They may have been fully rehabbed from an injury but have been cleared by our veterinarians for most disciplines.
  • $500: This range is for horses that are limited to a flat, trail or companion-type home. These horses are healthy and have been fully rehabbed and evaluated by a vet.
  • Waived: This is for horses that have significant limitations for a riding career or are otherwise difficult to place. These horses are otherwise healthy and have been evaluated by a veterinarian.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program

New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.

Since our inception in 1992, we've carried out our mission to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses and placed more than 9,000 in adoptive homes.  With nine facilities in Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, we continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of aftercare options and with our adopters to find perfect homes for these most-deserving equine athletes.
