Description
2020 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover Eligible
Meni Choice has flashy movement and a floating step that just scream potential, and his desire to please will certainly help along the way. He is very personable with loads of heart, loves being doted on and has a sweet, puppy-dog personality. He is friendly and polite, and tries his very best to figure out what you want. With his movement, a flatwork only career is nothing to scoff at!
Meni Choice was foaled in Korea, and raced only once- in Kentucky, and is eligible for the 2020 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover. He has healed from a tendon injury which is holding up very well as he progresses in training. Under saddle, he has come along steadily, gaining confidence and learning to trust his rider. His try-hard personality calls him to look to his person for guidance, and he will thrive with an experienced partner to reassure him and ease his nerves. Bonding with his own person will really help him settle in to his groove! He goes over ground poles with no problem, works on his own and with company, and enjoys hacking out as well as working in the arena.
In turnout and around the barn, he is quiet, sensible and easy to fall in love with. He is buddies with two other geldings and falls in the middle of the group. He has no vices, is respectful on the ground with good manners, and really appreciates the attention that comes with being a big, kind, beautiful horse!
ADOPTION FEE POLICY
New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.
In general, our fees are set at $500, $1000 or $1000 with a $1500 donation.
- $1000 with a $1500 donation: This range is for horses that we consider to be the cream of the crop or the unicorn horses. They are horses that have few or no limitations, have great conformation, movement and size.
- $1000: This range is for horses that are suitable for a competitive career up to a certain level (for example cleared for 2’6” but not 3’). They may have been fully rehabbed from a race injury but have been cleared for most disciplines.
- $500: This range is for horses that are limited to a flat, trail or companion type home. These horses are healthy and have been fully rehabbed and evaluated by a vet.
Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.
While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program
New Vocations is proud to be the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the country, serving more than 600 retired racehorses a year.
Since our inception in 1992, we've carried out our mission to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses and placed more than 9,000 in adoptive homes. With nine facilities in Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania, we continue to work with racing owners and trainers in need of aftercare options and with our adopters to find perfect homes for these most-deserving equine athletes.
